As we have 28 cards in our WILD VOICES set, we have decided to dedicate each of the 28 days of our campaign to one of these cards.
As you travel through Africa, your heartland, the wild voices of the African Animals become your guides ....
All warts and whiskers, bristles and blemishes, Warthog trots jauntily into our lives today.
Warthog is ugly – unashamedly so. His ugliness has made him brazen and defiant but it has also taught him to seek the true beauty which lies within.
WARTHOG
Key word: ILLUSION
Element: AIR (Symbolised by the Assagai )
Expressing the MALE quality of CONFIDENCE
[excerpts from WARTHOG’S message in the book Wild Voices: Messages from the Soul of Africa by Anne Keating]
Warthog’s outer garment might not be attractive but his confidence comes from the knowledge of his own true identity, not his outer shell. His strength lies in his inner nature which is pure and can never be defiled or defeated.
Warthog is here to initiate us into the conscious knowing of our inner beauty.
He implores us to seek reality, not illusion. To shatter the chimera and discover authenticity.
Warthog challenges us to penetrate the tough hide that we have wrapped around the ugly places within. Expose these wounds and apply the balm of love and forgiveness to yourself.
Warthog appears when we are feeling the need to give our lives more credibility. Do you only feel worthwhile if your diary is full, your week packed with events? In the fast lane we turn ourselves into manic robots, actually lifeless amongst all the activity.
We fill our lives with this frenetic busyness in order to avoid having to stop, look and take stock. If I were to stop what would I find? An emptiness, an abyss, a black hole with a vortex so strong that I would be sucked away and disappear? To recognise this is the first step to know that you are on the path to search for your true identity or your life’s mission; the solid ground from which you can express that which you truly are.
A spiritual retreat with an experienced guide or a Vision Quest with a practiced facilitator will give you a strong foundation to start from.
Seek your highest truth.

In a guided meditation a woman was at the point where she was “looking” at her chest and instead of seeing her heart as she had expected to, there was a dark and gaping hole. She was balancing on the edge on this hole, terrified; scared of the dark hole itself and terrified by the fact that she “had no heart”. She wanted to stop the meditation saying it was impossible to go on. She was literally frozen. She was asked to just sit there on the side of the hole for a while. After a very short time she suddenly said: “Something is happening down there, something is coming up out of the dark… oh it’s a big, beautiful butterfly, every colour of the rainbow, and it’s coming out of me to spread love and joy in the world.”
